Wk2 Pt1

  1. In my opinion, social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are all geared toward personal use.  These sites were made with individual users being first in mind.  They curate the way content is posted through a personal profile you create for yourself on the site.  There, you are encouraged to post a profile picture of yourself, give a brief description, and ultimately post about your life.
  2. I feel like Facebook and would be the best site for businesses to reach their customers on social media.  Facebook has provided many updates to make the site more usable for businesses such as creating business page profiles.  There, they can make important information easy to find and access on their public Facebook page such as store hours and contact information. There are also tools businesses can use to reach potential customers such instant messaging and being able to promote their posts.  Instagram is catching up by adding business profiles and promoted posts as well.
  3. Facebook and Instagram seem to be the platforms for both individual use and business use.  Instagram's use for business is more limited simply due to the nature of the content that is posted there. Businesses must be able to generate photo and video content to post on the site.  Facebook however, has a couple more broad options such as a simple text post or being able to set up a dedicated page for business information.

  1. Hi Austin,

I think you made some very valid points in differentiating social media sites from personal use or business use. I support the idea that Instagram was curated with individuals sharing their lives in mind. Promoted posts are another factor in making Instagram more business friendly. I like that you emphasized the need for businesses to provide contact information to consumers. Really well put.

    Best,
    Destiny

  2. I really like how you differentiated which platforms are for business and which are for personal use based on the features and what they prioritize. I agree that both Facebook and Instagram are made with individuals in mind, but can also be very lucrative for business use.

Instagram definitely is more of a niche for brands than Facebook due to the limitations of what you can post, and what the algorithm favors. It's almost entirely a visual medium.

  3. Hey Austin,
I agree that Facebook is probably the best social platform for businesses because it is much broader in options for promotions etc. Instagram is definitely catching up but I hope it doesn't get annoying with all the ads like Facebook has!

  4. Hi Austin,
I do agree with social media platforms are usage of personal usage. I do agree with Facebook and Instagram being both personal usage and business. But, I do think that Facebook has more tools that allows businesses than Instagram.
